Will the iPhone 8 be charged quickly?

In 14 years, with the first commercial use of OPPO Find 7, the fast charge has been very happy since then. Subsequent "charging for 5 minutes of talking for two hours", the fire spread all over the country, the advertising magic is no less than the brain white gold. On the other hand, Qualcomm and MTK processor platforms have also been put into commercial use, and the fast charge has ushered in a big explosion. Nowadays, fast charge has already been decentralized to a thousand yuan machine, and fast charge will be fully popularized. But we found that all this has nothing to do with Apple.

Then we have to ask, Apple, which has always been sensitive to technology and market sensation, is not a fast-filled flagship today. Is it a big brother in the industry?

How long can the 5V/1A ancestral "slow charge" last?

As we all know, the iPhone still retains the 5V/1A ancestral charging current (the 2A charging of the iPad may be an algorithm specially written by Apple compatible with the Lighting data line). Well, the Android mobile phone has to be such a silly X.

On January 6 this year, Apple's report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) showed that Apple's performance in 2016 did not meet expectations, and many executives including CEO Tim Cook were downgraded. The decline in sales volume has decreased, and I dare not say that the culprits are in the fast charge, but the difference between Android and iPhone on the same platform is further narrowed. Compared with the user experience, the charging technology is a lot worse, so it is hard to blame. There is no harm without comparison. After all, for today's users, the 2900mAh battery has long been for two and a half hours.

Why is the iPhone not charging fast? We think it encounters the following two difficulties.

1. Bottlenecks in the development of materials and energy density

Fast charging is actually a compromise technique, and the biggest compromise is the battery material. The development of battery technology is slow, and the biggest obstacle to development lies in materials. Lithium polymer materials, which are widely used at present, have also reached the bottleneck. The concept machine in the industry has used a new type of "special graphite molecular structure" for fast charging. The use of new battery materials may be an exploration and development direction for mobile phone batteries in the future. The development of technology and materials is limited, and the thinning is the trend of the times. In this case, only the same volume can be filled with more energy, that is, the energy density of the battery. The higher the energy density, the larger the capacity of the same volume battery. One plus one mobile phone 3 and one plus one mobile phone 3T is an obvious example. In the case of the same body, 3T is 400 mAh higher than 3, and it is said to use the energy density of 640 that has been popularized in the industry. The iPhone first has a small internal space, and it is destined to make a small battery. Secondly, the iPhone uses a long strip battery, and the energy density is difficult to enlarge. Because, when the battery is suitable for the length, width, and height ratio, the battery has the highest proportion of chemicals. The long strip structure of the iPhone is not well designed, and the final energy density will decrease. Looking at the current iPhone, this road is nowhere.

2. Compromise and balance between structure and design

Apple may have to reluctantly cut love.

If the iPhone does a fast charge, can you still use the Lighting interface? Lightning is Apple's proprietary connector specification and first appeared on products such as the iPhone 5 released in 2012. Both positive and negative can be inserted, and the size is similar to Micro USB. The connector pin has 8 pins, and only 1 pin in the 8 pin is responsible for charging. Fast charging requires increasing the charging current. The current is increased by the conductor. The larger the conductor of the current is, the larger the current is transmitted and the faster the charging. And now the iPhone is only 1 pin is far from reachable. As an example of Dash flashing of a mobile phone 3, the Dash flashing data line has a pin of 14 pins, of which 4 pins are responsible for charging.

To do fast charging, Apple must give up the Lighting cable and use the USB Type-C interface (also known as the USB-C interface).

Therefore, if the iPhone is to be fast-charged, it is very likely that the Lighting interface will be abandoned and the Type-C interface will be used.

Then the problem comes, the Type-C interface will make it difficult to make the body thin, and the thinning is Apple's design philosophy. I would rather use the camera to make the iPhone thinner, Jony Ive, Will Apple's chief designer agree?

The Type-C interface is almost a lap larger than the Lighting interface, posing a challenge for the iPhone with a superb body.

Will the iPhone 8 be charged quickly? The rumored iPhone 8 will have a long-awaited fast charge on the fruit powder?

For the pressure of sales pressure and user experience, we believe that Apple will not choose to ignore. The next generation of iPhones should not be missed.

All indications may indicate that Apple is already paving the way for fast filling. Although the iPhone is a fast game of hardware, design and marketing, we know that Apple is not one of the developers of USB 3.1 and Type-C standards, and Type-C is not surprising on the new iPhone. For the Macbook, which was launched on March 9, 15th, Apple adopted the USB Type-C interface for the first time. For the first time, the new MacBook uses a USB-C for power, USB, DP, HDMI and VGA interfaces on a laptop. This is the first time USB-C technology has been used in consumer notebooks. The more important reason is that I think this paves the way for the Type-C interface on the latter. In the Macbook Pro released in October, Apple plans to build a truly universal port on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Even we can boldly guess that the new iPhone will use the C to C (Type-C to Type-C) charging cable. For the first time on the Macbook launched on April 19 last year, Apple adopted the USB Type-C interface.

Choose high voltage, low current or low voltage and high current? This is a problem.

Two choices in front of the iPhone 8, high-voltage fast charge and low-voltage fast charge.

Whether it is high-voltage fast charge or low-voltage high-current fast charge, entering the mobile phone battery will turn into low voltage. In view of the current charging trend in the market, the advantages of low-voltage and high-current fast charging solutions have become dominant. OPPO took the lead in using VOOC flash charging (5V/4A), followed by Huawei's SuperCharge (5V/4.5A, 4.5V/5A, 5V/2A), and also abandoned the high-voltage fast charging scheme and switched to high current. Program. According to Apple's product philosophy, large chargers are not allowed (fast chargers require high-power chargers, which are bulky), so high currents have resistance. It is also not allowed to charge and heat, so the possibility of high voltage is small. Guess Apple will choose a compromised low-voltage, moderate (5V/3A) current solution (after all, the small screen iPhone + fast charge, it is already very fast.), both to help fast charging, but also to ensure the product Small and beautiful.

It is undeniable that fast charge is just a little cleverness that engineers play. Of course, a powerful apple can be dismissed. However, the experience brought by the fast charge to the user is unmatched, and the important user experience as the big brother of the industry seems to be slightly embarrassing. However, perhaps it is already brewing real black technology.
